Older Adults Using Media

Image
Lately, I have had the opportunity to work with many older adults. It is a great experience to learn from them and the life advice they can teach you. I have honestly learned from it who I want to continue becoming because of the experiences with older adults I’ve had. I also love my grandparents and great-grandparents and I am very grateful most of them are still alive and that we have a close connection. Thank goodness for media allowing them to create conversations and for the use of staying connected. However, something I have noticed is that we pay a lot of attention to how media impacts children but not as much on how it impacts older adults. It is crazy how for older adults there are actually a lot of benefits to using media. However, there can sometimes be a learning curve for them to learn how to accurately use technology which can be frustrating for them at times. We have to remind ourselves to be patient with them when it comes to understanding media because media is h...

Eu Amar Eles!

The assignment for watching an international Movie was fun to do! To be completely honest I have been watching Brazilian movies for a while or just any show in Portuguese to better learn the language. Learning Portuguese is one of my goals at the moment. I have a lot of friends from Brazil and absolutely adore the people and culture. It has been neat to see how differently the media represents each country. For example, a lot of Brazilian shows and movies depict a tight familial bond and friendship. As well as the men in the movies show a lot more emotion than in American films. There is also lots of diversity shown. I will say that women are still held to beauty ideals but it is different from America. In Brazilian films, it is less about skinny women but more about curvy women. I can definitely say this impacts women like it does in America just on different preferences. I know this observation is accurate because on my mission one of the sisters from Brazil that I was close to made ...

How females are portrayed in Media nowadays

Unfortunately, women are very objectified in a lot of media but to be fair men are too. This can be really detrimental to young girls as this can impact their self-esteem on their body image. However, there has been a more coming forth of women being heroines in movies. However, I feel there is no honor anymore to the unique roles of men and women. It is so important to love our bodies and realize the blessing they are. As well as, to realize as men and women we can use our differences to unite to make the world better.

Social Media isn't all that bad, it is all about how you use it.

I will not lie I have deleted Instagram and I only download it every once in a while to respond to friends. I personally have never been that big into social media and have always seen it as a waste of time. However, I don't see social media as completely bad it all depends on how you use it. I know that social media can be used for good and to uplift people. Personally, the part I love most about it is the connections it can create. I love Facebook Messenger because it allows me to stay connected with my loved ones and friends from all around the world. Without it it would be very difficult to keep close with the sisters from my missions that have gone back to their home countries. For the most part, I use technology to maintain close relationships it enriches staying connected over time and distance, which is a blessing.
