Media, Family, & Development Class, I kindly bid Adieu.

Wow, I cannot believe we have reached the end of this semester. This will be my final blog post for this class. It has been very interesting learning more about media as a whole and how it impacts children's and families' development. There have been skills I have learned from this class that I plan on using in my future family. One of those is having family discussions on family media usage, and how we would like to go about the way we use it in my family. It has been great to really research the fact that media is not necessarily bad or good but it is all in how you go about using it. We can be a positive influence by using media for good to uplift those around us and connect in a meaningful way with everyone around the world! Thank you, everyone, for your comments, and I wish y'all the best with finals and life after that!

Media often slanders the miracle of sex

Sex is a beautiful miracle that allows people to truly become connected as one. It was a gift given to us by our Heavenly Father and we have the miracle to create life. Whereas, unfortunately in our day to day, the media portrays sex as a means of gratification, crude jokes, or a bargaining chip. Most movies never treat sex as beautiful and often portray it as something aggressive and passionate. While forgetting it can also be gentle and loving. It is important to think about what children are watching especially when it comes to sex and their portrayal of it. If you do not teach your child first about sex the ways they could learn from the media could give them unhealthy viewpoints of sexuality as a whole. The more your child understands about sexuality and their own body from you in a healthy manner the more likely they are to respect not only their own bodies but others as well. Sex is a beautiful miracle given to us by God.

Preventing Cyberbullying

With media being a huge part of everyone's life it brings about new outcomes of how it impacts individuals. One unfortunate thing is how bullying has taken a new approach through cyberbullying. The horrible thing about cyberbullying is for some people it is hard to escape in the sense that on technology someone can be invading someone and tearing them down constantly 24/7, compared to it only being at school. The other negative thing about cyberbullying is sometimes people are more likely to be extremely nasty when they can hide behind an internet mask and when they don't see tangibly how they are hurting someone on the other end. Through social media, cyberbullying can be more public, but this can also be a plus in the sense that more people will hopefully recognize it and put a stop to it. It is important as a community to support those who are being cyberbullied in any form, and to put a stop to cyberbullying. This can be through blocking the account of the cyberbully or mak...
