Social Media Fast
It is neat coming into this class to come to better understand media as a whole for all of its good and bad. My dad has always said to be the master of technology and not to let technology be the master of you. I remember throughout our lives our family has done social media fasts. Doing this fast helped us feel connected to our Heavenly Father and focus on things outside of the media. During finals, our entire family went on a media fast from fun media that could distract us from studying. This media fast was extremely helpful to uniting as a family and to also learning good boundaries when it comes to media. Now I personally keep my social media apps off my phone so they are not as much of a distraction while I am doing school, and I download them back when I have some free time. I feel that learning more about how media can impact us individually helps us make choices for ourselves on how we each use media and it is personal to every person. I'm excited in this class to learn more about media in a way that it can be used for good.

Thank you for posting this and giving us the reminder of your father "Be the master of technology and not let technology be the master of you". This is so important as it helps us navigate our time on earth while constant voices grab for our attention. There is so much wisdom, and this reminder can be applicable to many more other things in our lives. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of doing a social media fast, especially during finals! I often find myself getting distracted or looking for ways procrastinating doing my homework or studying and scrolling through social media has become my default. I think what you said about learning how media impacts us so we can make informed decisions for ourselves is really insightful. My goal for this semester is to be more mindful of the type of media I consume.
ReplyDeleteI really love the idea of social media fasts. They allow us to take a step back and see what our life is like without it. That kind of perspective is so necessary in this fast-paced world. I've had some really meaningful experiences after taking a break from social media after the prophet invited us to do so.
